Posting!

Well... I almost had a post finished last night when my internet went down completely! I was uploading some photos and thought maybe it happened because I'd tried to upload too much at once - so after playing around a bit I called Shaw and sure enough, they were doing routine maintenance... you'd think there would be some way they could notify us via email when it's going to be happening. So... here is yesterday's post:

Earlier this month I took part in a photo scavenger hunt and it got me thinking about some of the little things that I love around my kitchen... here they are:

I loved this the first time I saw it... it's not really a paper bag but a clay vase... but doesn't it look like a real bag?!

I love sunflowers, even fake ones!

I made this myself - it's quite big and sits on top of the fridge.

Mr. Sun sits on a dark wall in my kitchen to brighten it up.
I know this might be a strange place for a bird house when there are no birds flying around my house but I just liked it so much that I didn't want it outside!

This just makes me laugh! It sits inside an old china cabinet I painted white.

My favorite chickens made from gourds... I have more but these are the cutest!

I love dried things too...and corn is no exception - that is until you drop it and all these nice little kernals go all over the kitchen!
Plants, pigs, corn and chickens... that's my kitchen decor... maybe it's time for an update but I love being in my kitchen because it feels so cosy.

Ah... memories - this is on the shelf with the plants and piggy... I remember my mother using this to grind meat...she would also use it to grind up the leftover roast beef and made something with it.. I forget what it was now.

This beat up match holder...there's memories there too. It once was in my mother's kitchen but as it got older, made it's way downstairs to my dad's workshop where the old woodstove was... I remember it always hanging on the 2x4 stud full of wooden matches. My brother has the old stove that came originally from my grandfathers house (it heated the whole house) - it's black and covered with nickel... made in the early 1900's it now sits unused in their family room covered with plants.

And... I can't forget this little gem... given to me at my christening 57 or so years ago... when I was a little kid, I thought it was a weird looking rabbit.... but no, it's a weird looking squirrel!! Once in awhile, when we were really lucky, my mum would take this out of her china cabinet and get another cup and saucer for my brother and she'd make us hot chocolate! Funny the memories this brings up!
